Vaccination Awareness Programme Conducted at St. Theresa’s School
St. Theresa’s School, Bendur, organised a Vaccination Awareness Programme for the parents of girl students of Classes VIII and IX on 15th July 2026 to create awareness about HPV vaccination and its vital role in preventing cervical cancer.
The programme was conducted in response to the initiative of the District Health Officer, Dakshina Kannada, to promote HPV vaccination among eligible girls who have completed 14 years and are below 15 years of age as on 15th August 2026.
The programme was graced by Dr. Prema D’Cunha, Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences, Natekal, Mangaluru, as the resource person. The event was also attended by Mr. Eshwar H. R., Block Education Officer, Mangaluru South, Mrs. Kumudini, Cluster Resource Person, Sr. Lourdes B.S., Principal, Sr. Vidya, Vice Principal, along with parents and members of the teaching staff.
The school also expressed its gratitude to Dr. Rohan Monis, Chief Administrative Officer of Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences and a well-wisher of the school, for facilitating the programme.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Eshwar H. R. highlighted the importance of the HPV vaccine in safeguarding the health of young girls. He encouraged parents to consult their family doctors to make informed decisions regarding vaccination and emphasised the need to support this important public health initiative.
During her enlightening session, Dr. Prema D’Cunha explained the causes of cervical cancer, the importance of early prevention through the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, the recommended age for vaccination, and its safety and effectiveness. She addressed parents’ concerns, dispelled common misconceptions, and encouraged them to ensure timely vaccination for their daughters to safeguard them against cervical cancer.
As a token of appreciation, Sr. Lourdes B.S., Principal, presented floral bouquets to the distinguished guests and a sapling to Dr. Prema D’Cunha. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the resource person, dignitaries, parents, and staff for their support and participation.
The awareness programme was highly informative and well received, empowering parents with valuable knowledge and reinforcing the importance of HPV vaccination in protecting the future health of young girls.
