St. Theresa’s School Celebrates World Environment Day with ‘Sapling Sparkle’ Herbal and Medicinal Plant Initiative

To commemorate World Environment Day, St. Theresa’s School organised “Sapling Sparkle,” a unique herbal and medicinal plant initiative for the students of Grades III to V. The programme aimed to create awareness about environmental conservation and to inculcate in children a love for nature through the planting and nurturing of herbal and medicinal plants.

The event was graced by Mrs Savitha Albuquerque, a staff member of the school, as the Chief Guest. The programme was also attended by the Principal, Vice Principal, teachers, and students.

The celebration commenced with a meaningful Prayer Service, invoking God’s blessings on the collective efforts to protect and preserve the environment. This was followed by a warm welcome to the gathering.

A special highlight of the programme was the students’ presentation on the medicinal value of the plants they had brought. The young participants confidently shared interesting facts about various herbal and medicinal plants and explained their health benefits and significance in daily life. Their enthusiasm and knowledge reflected a growing awareness of the need to conserve nature and promote sustainable living.

As part of the World Environment Day celebrations, the students enthusiastically participated in an Environmental Protection Pledge. The pledge encouraged them to become responsible citizens committed to safeguarding the environment through their everyday actions. The students solemnly resolved to conserve natural resources, reduce waste, plant and nurture trees, keep their surroundings clean and green, and spread awareness about environmental conservation among their families and friends.

Addressing the gathering, Mrs Savitha Albuquerque highlighted the importance of protecting nature and encouraged the students to lovingly care for the plants they had received. She emphasized that every small effort towards preserving the environment contributes to a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future.

The programme concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to the Chief Guest, the school management, teachers, and students for making the initiative a success.

“Sapling Sparkle” proved to be a meaningful and inspiring initiative that encouraged young minds to become responsible stewards of the environment. The programme beautifully reinforced the message that every plant nurtured today helps create a better tomorrow and serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility we share in safeguarding our planet for future generations.
