In a remarkable feat of dedication and commitment to environmental conservation, St Theresa's School has been honored with the prestigious "Best Performing School" award in the "Ocean Matters – Safeguarding Oceans" project. This recognition is a testament to the tireless efforts of the school's Eco club members, supported by their Environmental Application students and teacher coordinators Mrs Roopa Chowta and Mrs Mangalashree.
The project, "Ocean Matters - Safeguarding Oceans," called for students to venture into the field and conduct on-site experiments at various water sources in and around Mangalore. Armed with curiosity and scientific rigor, these young environmentalists explored Ullal beach, Netravathi, and Shambavi rivers. They meticulously analyzed critical factors like water temperature, water salinity, and the presence of microplastics in the water. Their dedication to collecting, analyzing, and documenting scientific data was truly commendable.
On March 6, 2023, the school received a distinguished visit from Ms. Brindha Jayakanth and Ms. Saltanat Kazi, representatives from the US Consulate General Chennai. The students eagerly presented their experiments to these esteemed delegates, showcasing their commitment to ocean conservation. Principal Sr Lourdes, a guiding force behind the project, emphasized how the project's learnings have not only enriched the school's environment but have also been seamlessly integrated into the curriculum.
This remarkable initiative has not only nurtured the students' scientific aptitude and critical thinking but has also succeeded in raising awareness and fostering active participation in the campaign to improve ocean health. The efforts of St Theresa's School in safeguarding our oceans have not gone unnoticed.
